Tech Tools for Learning
What Are Assistive Technologies?
The term "assistive technology" refers to anything that helps you perform a task. For example, I wear glasses to help me see better. If you need to reach something up high, you may stand on a ladder. If you sprain your wrist, you may use dictation software like Dragon NaturallySpeaking or Google Voice Typing to write your papers. If you have dyslexia or your eyes get tired easily, you may use a text reader like Kurzweil 3000 or NaturalReader to have your books read out loud to you. And so on. There are many tech tools that support your unique learning needs. This open Canvas course teaches you how to use many of these technologies. For an overview of software and apps that support student learning, visit my Tech Tools for Academic Success website.
But first, in this module I provide some basic information about the technologies that CSM provides to students — as well as the other campuses in the San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD).
