Captioning Made Easy

There are a variety of resources for adding closed captions and transcripts to your video and audio recordings. Please see the following sections on this page to learn more about these tools.

Captioning in YouTube

YouTube can use speech recognition technology to automatically create captions for videos. Automatic captions are generated by machine learning algorithms, so the quality of the captions may vary, and may need some editing to ensure accuracy. Automatic captions may not be ready at the time that you upload a video and processing time depends on the complexity of the video's audio, so if you do not see the captions right away, be sure to check back to verify they were added to your video. When a video contains captions, you can also select the "more options" menu (three horizontal dots) to view the video transcript.

Resources

The following guides will assist you with the process of uploading a video to YouTube, as well as editing the automatic captions on the video.

Captioning in Panopto

Panopto can be used to record videos and easily share them with your students. Captions will be automatically applied to your video, which may be edited for accuracy. Please refer to the following resources to record, edit and share your Panopto videos.
