What is the process for approving a student's accommodations?

EAC Approval Processes

Students who already have existing documentation

  1. Student completes an Application for Services Links to an external site. and sets up an intake appointment with EAC counselors, Melissa Matthews or Jessica Truglio.
  2. During the intake appointment, EAC counselors review disability documentation, educational limitations, and explore appropriate accommodations. EAC accepts a wide variety of documentation including, but not limited to: IEP, 504 Plan, Veteran service connection paperwork, letter (on letterhead) from doctor or therapist, signed disability verification form, psycho-educational report.
  3. Academic Accommodation Plan is created and signed by EAC counselor and student.
  4. Accommodation letter is provided to the student. Each semester the student must check in with the EAC and receive a current EAC. Students can request their accommodation letter by submitting a request form Links to an external site. or stopping by the EAC office.

Timeline: If the student has existing documentation, the process is straightforward and can be completed during the next available appointment. Generally the appointment lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Students who do not have existing documentation

  1. Student completes an Application for Services and an intake questionnaire regarding their current learning challenges as well as history with learning. The student will then meet with Jessica Truglio, LD Specialist.
  2. During the meeting with Jessica, the intake questionnaire is reviewed and Jessica will determine whether it is appropriate to provide Learning Disability Eligibility testing.
  3. Due to Covid19, we are not currently able to provide the needed testing to determine learning disability eligibility. In lieu of this process, the student will meet with Jessica to discuss current and past experiences with learning. Jessica will provide counseling regarding learning strategies, appropriate referrals, and possibly temporary accommodations until such time that the assessment can get given.

Timeline: The initial intake with Jessica is scheduled for 1 hour. The testing process involves approximately 8-10 hours scheduled over 4-5 meetings. The overall process typically takes 2-4 weeks from the initial interview to the final results meeting. During this time of remote learning, temporary accommodations may be approved following the initial one hour intake interview.
