Talking Calculator for Kurzweil Users

The Kurzweil 3000 for Windows "Talking Calculator"

The latest version of Kurzweil's Windows software comes with the Kurzweil Talking Calculator, a program that includes regular, scientific, and statistical calculators. Talking Calculator reads out the numbers and operational signs as you click them, and also reads out the result.

This Talking Calculator application is not included within Kurzweil 3000 itself - it is a separate program that is installed along with Kurzweil 3000 for Windows version 22. If you have an older version, please contact me for help upgrading.

Where to Find It

  1. To open the Kurzweil Talking Calculator, open the Start menu, then start typing "Kurz…"
Note: In both Windows 10 and 11, click the Windows icon in the taskbar or press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start menu.
  2. Look for "Kurzweil 3000 Calculator" on the left, under Apps. Click that link to open the program.

Note: If you use the Kurzweil Talking Calculator often, I suggest that you pin it to the Windows taskbar or the Start menu. Instead of opening the program, click the little arrow next to it in the Start menu's Apps list. Then you can select "Pin to Start" or "Pin to taskbar."

Tips

  • The voice you use in Kurzweil starts speaking when the Talking Calculator launches. Click the "Speech" checkbox at the bottom to turn it off.
  • If you have a touch-screen laptop or monitor, tap the number and operational sign keys with your finger; if not, use your mouse to click.
  • To use your keyboard only, then press F3 on your keyboard - or click the Menu - to access a list of keyboard shortcuts. (I've provided the hotkey list in this module for your convenience.)
  • To access the different calculator options, click View to open the View menu. You have four options: Scientific, Statistics, Standard (the default), and Business.
  • To hear an overview of the Calculator functions, in your selected Calculator View click "Help" and select "About KESI Calculator Application." The information provided depends on the view that you have selected. For your convenience, I've copied the Help document for the Standard View into this module.
