Mindomo's Cornell Notes Template
I often recommend that students use Mindomo in conjunction with Otter. After recording a class session in Otter, you can use your transcript to fill out the Cornell Notes template in Mindomo. Here's how:
- Open Mindomo - any version.
- Open the Cornell Notes template:
In Mindomo School - the online version that we provide - click Create, then open My School Templates at the top.
In the downloaded version, search on "Cornell" to go straight to the template. - Spend a little time looking through the template: the first time you open it, Mindomo will give you a tutorial.
- Go to Otter.ai in a web browser. For this task, it's easier to use the online version.
- Open the recording transcript you need to take notes on.
- Review the transcript, looking for key topics, then copy text and paste it into the right column in the Mindomo Cornell Notes template.
- In the left column of the Cornell Notes template, please add questions you have about the class, key terms, and other notes.
- Finally, at the bottom of the template, summarize what you learned - in your own words.
Tip: The Voice In Voice Typing extension works well in Mindomo. You may learn about it in my Overview of Dictation.

Note: Mindomo Online vs. Downloaded Version
The online version of Mindomo is similar to the downloaded software version, though there are a few little differences: for example, when you open Mindomo on your computer, you will go straight to the Create screen, which shows all the templates. (The Online version opens up with a list of your mind maps.)
