Basic Dictation and Editing Commands

Editing and Dictation With Your Voice

To Do This

Say This

Add a line "New line" or "Press Enter"
Begin a new paragraph "New paragraph"
Press the Tab key "Tab" or "Press Tab key"
Undo your work (as with Control-Z) "Undo" or "Undo that" or "Scratch that" or "Restore that"
Delete words or characters "Backspace" or "Delete word or phrase" or "Delete from word to word"
Format text "Select word" or "Select word through word" and then use one of these commands: "Capitalize that," "Bold that," "Center that," "Left align that," and so on.
Go to the end of the document "Go to end"
Go to a specific place in a document "Resume with text at that location"
Copy or cut text Select the word, then "Copy [cut] that," or use "Copy [cut] that"
Insert copied or cut text elsewhere in the document "Insert before [after] word"
Click a button or icon (such as in the Microsoft Office Ribbon), or access program menus (options in the File menu, for example) "Click name of button," "Click Save," "Click File, Save As," and so on.
