Kurzweil Online Vocabulary Study Guide

Create Vocabulary Lists with Kurzweil 3000 Column Notes

Step 1: Highlight Words as You Read

Text in Kurzweil with words highlighted in yellow

As you read your text, use the Highlighter tool to flag any words that you're unsure about. You can select any color you wish. Some of my students like to use a special color for vocabulary words--one that they don't use for other highlighting.

Go ahead and read your entire assignment.

Step 2. Click Column Notes, and Select "Extract Highlights to Vocabulary Study Guide"The Kurzweil 3000 Column Notes bar selected, with the Extract Highlights to Vocabulary Study Guide box open.

Step 3. Choose your "Extract Highlights to Vocabulary Study Guide" Options

  • Make sure that the highlighter color that you used for vocabulary words is selected.
  • I suggest leaving the default dictionary selected--American Heritage is fine for most purposes.
  • Add pictures if you wish by selecting "Include Picture"
  • Click "Extract to New Text File" if this is the first vocabulary study guide you're creating for your textbook. (Later on, you can add to it by clicking "Open Existing" if you wish.)
  • Click "Ok"

Step 4. Save Your New Vocabulary Study Guide

Click the Save icon to save your study guide to the Universal Library with a name you'll remember, and also save it to Google Drive if you wish. Click the Document Options icon to download it to your computer.
