3.1 | Overview Transcript
The course home page is the first view your students will see when they enter your course. Think of it as the first impression!
When designing a home page it is important to strike a balance between including enough information to allow students to successfully begin the course, but not overwhelming or flooding students with too much information. When students view the course home page, they should be able to easily locate a course banner with an image that is visually relevant to represent the course, a brief course overview or welcome statement, the course learning objectives, and instructions on how and where to begin the course course. Navigation instructions should ideally be available in three clicks or less, which can be achieved by adding simple navigation buttons or links. Additionally, it is paramount that all content included within the course home page be accessible to all users.
While faculty have the option to create their own homepage designs using a variety of third party tools faculty may also select to adopt the Canada College Course template, which includes three home page templates that are in an accessible format. Each of the course template home page options offer a similar layout, which can be easily customized with images, colors, text and links to fit the needs of any course.
