2.1 | Overview Transcript
In a well-designed course, students will need access to important getting started information. This information is often located within a Module 0 or Getting Started module, which precedes the beginning of the course learning modules. Faculty have the option to develop their Getting Started module from scratch, or faculty may choose to adopt the Cañada template - Getting Started module, which can be imported from the Canvas Commons into any Canvas course shell.
To import the Cañada template - Getting Started module navigate to the Canvas Commons in the Global Navigation Menu. Once in the Canvas Commons search for Cañada Template - Getting Started module. Select the title and then select to Import.
There are many important components to include in a comprehensive Getting Started module, such as student technical support, syllabus and instructor contact information, instructions on course navigation, online etiquette policies, online readiness resources, and opportunities for student engagement.
The Cañada Template - Getting Started module contains template pages that can be quickly and easily customized to meet the needs of any course. Many of these pages contain turnkey resources that will be ready and waiting to be published for your students. However, there are certain pages that will need to be updated. Such as adding an instructor photo, bio and course syllabus. Recording a course overview video and updating the course policies. Each page provides an accessible layout and suggestions for how to use that particular resource. This language is often in bold and italicized text.
Be sure to click through each page in the Cañada Template - Getting Started module to ensure that the template language has been removed and has been replaced with language that is pertinent to your course.
Thank you very much for watching.
