1.4 | Customizing Course Resources Transcript
Let's now take a look at the Instructor Template Module. It has been preloaded with Text Headers to help you organize your content into meaningful categories. Simply duplicate the menu item from the module above and add it to the appropriate location in the Instructor Template Module. This will allow you to create a personalized template module containing only the elements you plan to use most frequently for instruction. Let's take a look at a few examples, so you're comfortable with how to do this process.
We know that each module will begin and end with an Overview and Summary page, so we can go ahead and duplicate each one of these. To duplicate an item, locate the More Options Menu and select Duplicate. Doing so adds the text "copy" to the end of the activity title.
There are two ways to grab your duplicated materials and redirect them to your Instructor Template module. One is to again locate the More Options Menu for that item and use the Move To menu. The other way is to simply drag and drop the item down to its new location.
Let's take a look at a few more examples. Perhaps each week in your course also includes a required reading and an instructor lecture video. So let's go ahead and duplicate each one of these as well. And now we can drag them down into our Instructor Template. And as a final example, perhaps each week includes a graded forum, so we'll duplicate the discussion and add that to our Instructor Template Module as well. Of course, these examples may differ from your weekly schedule. However, they provide an example of how you can select menu items, duplicate them, and add them to your Instructor Template module to be edited and loaded with your specific course content. Once you have created an Instructor Template module that looks relatively similar to a standard module, unit, or week in your course, you can duplicate that entire module as many times as needed and simply make edits to the activity titles and individual content items as needed.
I'd like to point out one exception to the workflow I've just demonstrated. Notice that the Menu module contains a quiz. Canvas Classic Quizzes do not contain the option to be duplicated. Also, notice that if you have a quiz in your module, that module does not allow you to duplicate. To work around this issue, if you have a module that contains a quiz and you'd like to go ahead and duplicate that module, simply temporarily remove the quiz, duplicate the module, and then add the quiz back in.
Throughout the semester, continue to refer back to the Lesson Menu module and the Instructor Template as many times as needed. Using the template resources will help you efficiently create, duplicate, and publish your course materials.
Thank you very much for watching.
