Welcome to the Cañada College Course Template. This video will discuss the resources contained within the course template, as well as tips for efficiently customizing the template to best meet your needs.

When students enter the course they will initially land on the course homepage. This template is preloaded with three home page template options, all of which contain a similar layout. On each home page, students are provided general course information and are then directed to select modules to access all course content.

Let's take a look at the Course Navigation Menu to view additional resources contained within the course template. As mentioned, this course contains three sample home page options. It also contains a template Announcement. Next up is the Accessible Syllabus Page.

When you select the Syllabus Index, you will have a few options. The Syllabus Index is preloaded with an accessible syllabus template that you can populate with your own course content using the Canvas Rich Content Editor. Conversely, this text can be removed from the page and a syllabus file can be uploaded, such as a Word document. Finally, the syllabus can be disabled from the Course Navigation Menu, and the syllabus can be added directly to a module.

Let's navigate to Modules and take a look at the content there. First, you will see an Instructor Module. It is very important that you go through this module in detail and read all about this template. This is also where you can learn more about customizing home page banners, buttons and other course images. You'll notice that this module is unpublished and should not be published for students to view.

There is also a Student Technical Support module and comprehensive Getting Started module. These modules include support information, course policy templates, as well as sample learning exercises. Although there is preloaded content in each of these pages many of them will require you to personalize the information before you publish the course for students to view.

A little further down, we see the Lesson "Menu" Module and Instructor Template module. The Menu module includes Overview and Summary pages, sample Text Headers to help organize your content, as well as pages for reading activities, video, and a variety of assessments, including individual assignment, graded discussion forum, and quiz. Each of these pages provides you, the instructor, with guidelines and suggestions as to how to use the template activity. This text is often bold and italicized. Certain activities within the menu module also contain support resources for students, which is an effective way to ensure that students have the support they need, right where they are located within the course.

Finally, the Instructor Template module has been preloaded with Text Headers to help you organize your content into meaningful categories. Simply duplicate the menu item from the module above and add it to the appropriate location in the Instructor Template module. This will allow you to create a personalized template module containing only the elements you plan to use most frequently for instruction.

Thank you very much for watching.
