1.5 | Customizing Course Visuals (Banners and Buttons)

The Cañada Course Template is pre-loaded with three home page templates. Each home page template follows a similar layout and includes a banner, navigation buttons, and brief instructions for getting started with the course (learn more about home pages in module 3).

By default, home page template #1 is set as the course front page, however, you may select whichever home page template you would like to use as your course front page. In any of the home page template selections contained in the Cañada Course Template, you may edit and customize the banners and buttons to meet the specific needs of your course.

Written Instructions

You can change the color scheme, image, or add text to the home page visual resources (banners and buttons) by following these steps (please also see the video tutorial on this page):

Customize Your Home Page Images in Google Draw

  1. Navigate to the Home Page Banner/Button you would like to use and select the link. This link will prompt you to make a copy of the Google Drawing so that you can customize and save multiple versions.
  2. In the copy you created, select the area of the Home Page image you would like to customize and insert the appropriate color and/or text.
  3. Remove "Copy of" text from the drawing title
  4. Once completed select "File," then choose to "Download As," and select "PNG img."

Bringing Your Banner/Button Into Canvas

  1. From your Course Navigation Menu select Files.
    • Select the appropriate folder ("Home page 1," "Home page 2," etc.) > Upload your customized .png file here
  2. From the course Home Page, select "Edit."
  3. Click on the current course banner/button image.
  4. Select "Images" icon from the Rich Content Editor
    • Select "Course Images"
    • Scroll until you see the image you'd like to use and click on it once
  5. Select "Save" on the page.

If you selected the Home Page 2 or Home Page 3 template you will also need to select this page as the course Front Page (the Home Page 1 template is set as the default option).
