Module 4 | Excel | Transcript | Images
This video will demonstrate how to add alternative text to images in Excel documents.
Once you've added an image to your Excel document there are a few different ways to add the alt text.
First, using your cursor, select the image, then select Picture Format in your ribbon.
In some versions of Excel, there may actually be an Alt Text button in the menu of options, and in other versions of Excel you'll need to select the Format Pane option and then navigate to the third tab over where you'll be able to add the alternative text in the Description field.
Another way to add the image alt text is again, using your cursor, right click on the image, then select Format Picture. Navigate to the third tab over and add the alt text to the Description field.
In this example, I have two images on my Excel document, one of which does not yet contain alternative text.
Another way to check the accessibility of your content is to run the Microsoft Excel Accessibility Checker.
To do so, select Review from the ribbon and then select Check Accessibility.
Here I see the Accessibility Checker is letting me know that I have an image missing alternative text. If I select this option it highlights the image within the document that contains the issue.
A little further down in the Accessibility Checker area Microsoft also provides some information about why this issue is important to fix, as well as the steps to fix this particular issue.
Thank you very much for watching.
