Overview

This module focuses on methods for creating universally designed Excel documents that offer benefits to authors and readers alike. When content is created to meet the needs of diverse users who employ a wide range of technologies, including assistive technologies, these ADA-compliant documents can help promote social inclusion.

Creating accessible MS Excel files requires an investment in time, however, any effort put in on the front side of creating accessible slides is easily half of the time needed to remediate documents for accessibility.

By the end of Module 4, you will be introduced to the following elements of accessible Excel content creation:

  • Images
  • Hyperlinks
  • Sheet Tab Naming
  • Color and Contrast
  • Tables - Row and Column Headers
  • Media (audio and video)

The following pages will provide guidelines for the accessibility of your materials in each of the areas outlined in Section D of the OEI Rubric Links to an external site., the ADA Evaluation Checklist Download ADA Evaluation Checklist, and the Canvas Course Evaluation Checklist Links to an external site.. As you review the content please consider how accessibility will inform the selection of your educational materials.
