Opening the Feedback Loop

Gathering Student Feedback

You don't have to wait until the end of the semester to learn how students are experiencing your course(s). Get support from instructional designers in gathering feedback from students on your course climate, design, and/or facilitation. You can customize the type of feedback based on what you are curious about.

How Does It Work?

You can choose between two feedback options:

Student Survey

Available to all modalities. You can import our mid-semester student feedback survey Download mid-semester student feedback survey, ready to go, to your Canvas site, and have students participate within a time window of your choice. Watch this video Links to an external site. on how to import the survey to your course. You can also download a printable version Download printable version of the survey.

Need additional support? Our team can help you set up the survey, customize questions, and brainstorm strategies based on students' feedback. An announcement template Download announcement template is also available to communicate to students the purpose and logistics of the feedback survey.

Roundtable Discussion

Available to instructors teaching in all modalities. An instructional designer will visit your class on the day/time of your choice and gather targeted, qualitative feedback from students. You will need to set aside 15 minutes of your selected class session, either at the beginning or before the end of the class. The process includes three steps:

  1. Initial meeting with an instructional designer, to provide context of your course and identify aspects you would particularly like feedback on (30 minutes).
  2. Data collection, conducted by an instructional designer on the day/time of your choice. (15 minutes)
  3. Follow-up meeting with an instructional designer, to discuss feedback and brainstorm strategies you may implement (45-60 minutes)

**Student feedback is strictly confidential (only discussed with the instructor) and has no impact on formal evaluation or tenure processes at CSM.
