Echo Smartpen Basics
Important Notes
- The instructions on this page apply to the original Livescribe Echo Smartpen; the latest model, the Echo 2, may look a bit different.
- As of this writing (December 2022), Livescribe's Echo Desktop software is no longer supported by the company.
Turning on your Smartpen
Just press the power button.
Writing Notes Only
As long as the Smartpen is on, it captures your handwritten notes and drawings when writing on any Livescribe Dot Paper.
Recording Audio Only (paperless session)
- Tap on a Record button on any Livescribe notebook page.
- When you have finished recording audio, tap on the Stop button.
Writing Notes and Recording Audio
- Tap on a Record icon on a Livescribe notebook page.
- Begin writing on any Livescribe notebook page.
Your Smartpen automatically links the audio to anything you write on Livescribe Dot Paper - When you finish taking notes and recording audio, tap on the Stop button .
- To play back your audio, tap on your handwritten notes
Adding to Your Notes After Recording Audio
You can write new notes and link them to any previously recorded audio. This annotation is very useful when you need to clarify or expand on your notes at a later time.
- After you start audio playback, begin writing with the Your Smartpen automatically links your annotations to the previously recorded audio.
- When you are finished annotating, stop the audio.
Deleting a Session from the Smartpen
- After turning on your Smartpen, tap the center of a Navigation icon on a notebook page.
- Tap the down arrow in the Nav icon to take you to Paper.
- Tap the right arrow to take you to Record.
- Tap the down arrow to take you to Play.
- Tap the down arrow once more to take you to Delete Session (Tap down one more time to
Delete All Sessions").
