Tech at the EAC
What the Educational Access Center Can Do for You
The Skyline College EAC offers students with disabilities access to technologies to help them learn. All of the tech tools listed on this page are either free - or free to students who are registered with the EAC. If you have accommodations through the EAC, please contact the Skyline College assistive technology specialist if you would like to use any of these technologies.
Tech for Reading
- Kurzweil 3000: This text-to-speech assistive technology program is available as an accommodation to students with disabilities who are registered with the EAC. It does a lot more than just read text!
- NaturalReader: This easy-to-use screen reader has a good free version.
Tech for Writing
- Dictation software: Students who are registered with the EAC can use Dragon by Nuance in our test center. However,, everyone can use Google Voice Typing in Google Docs; dictation features in Windows and the MacOS, and on Chromebooks; and other free tech.
- Mind mapping: We offer Mindomo School to students who are registered with the EAC. This online (and downloadable) mind mapping software lets you turn mind maps into outlines and start writing.
Tech for Note Taking
- Otter.ai: We offer Otter.ai as a note taking accommodation. Otter.ai is available online, and as a mobile app for the Apple iPhone, iPad, Android or Google phone, or a tablet. You record any lecture -- in person or online -- and Otter creates a transcript for you.
