Collecting assignments online can be much easier to manage with Canvas. You'll first want to create your assignments, discussions and quizzes in Canvas, and then you can set up your gradebook and explore grading options.

Assignments

Assignments can be used to have students submit a file, URL, or a text entry that other students can't see (unlike a discussion). Be sure to write out clear instructions so that students know what you want them to do for the assignment, what they should submit and how it will be graded.

Creating Quizzes

You can use the quizzes feature in Canvas to give quizzes, tests and exams in Canvas. Be sure to include instructions so that students know what material to study to prepare for a test and any perameters to a test like multiple attempts and time limits.

Creating Discussions

Discussions are a great tool to use to create interactive assignments that get students interacting with one another and allow you to assess their learning.

Watch the video guide below to learn how to set up discussions. Return to your course and set up any discussion assignments that you'll need. You might also consider creating an ungraded Q & A Discussion where students can post questions about the course.
