Start Here: Welcome to the Course!!!
Welcome students to HIST 240: History of Ethnic Groups in California at Skyline Community College! This happens to be my favorite class to teach and I am excited to be working with you this semester!
Before we proceed, READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY!
A Practice Quiz at the end of this Unit will demonstrate your understanding of the following materials (you must pass the Practice Quiz in order to continue with the course).
If you heard somewhere or from someone that “on-line courses are easy!” Well, my courses are not “easy” and so that we are clear, this class will be challenging and you will have to dedicate a certain level of time and energy in order to earn a passing grade.
If you are an engaged and committed student (or strive to become one), this may be the class for you! Meaning, if you are the type of student:
- Who expects to be challenged, both intellectually and academically, then this is the class for you!
- Who looks forward to assignments that will force you to think critically and build your literacy skills, then this is the class for you!
- Who will take initiative to ask questions and engage in academic and real life discussions, then this is the class for you!
- Who will apply maximum effort into every assignment,
Then this may be the class for you!!!
However,
If you are a passive and non-committed student, this may not be the class for you. Meaning, if you are a student:
- Who expects a passing grade even if you do not purchase or borrow assigned books, this is not the class for you! (all assignments will require you to demonstrate your comprehension and analysis of assigned readings).
-
Who expects a passing grade even if you do not complete class assignments -such as the assigned readings, class participation, quizzes, tests, etc.- or if you regularly apply minimal effort into class assignments, then this is not the class for you!
-
Who expects to be “forced fed” information and you simply “regurgitate” that information, then this is not the class for you!
If you are a passive and non-committed student or are concerned whether or not you are prepared to take an online course, please contact the instructor for consultation. If you are an engaged and committed student and are confident that you are well prepared to succeed in an online course please proceed to the next page to Weekly Structure and Time Commitment!!!
